The Portable Barcode Scanner Unit is comprised of a Tricoder, a Scanner, and the connecting cable. This unit has three modes of operation as reviewed below.
Data Collection Mode is the method used for walking around and collecting datathis is most commonly done during a physical inventory. When you scan the barcodes, the scanner sends this information into the Tricoder. The Tricoder, with its 512K memory (more than 40,000 scans worth), stores this information until you are ready to upload it into your computer.
PROGRAMSThere are three custom programs within the Data Collection Mode: Program 1 is the Item ID/QuantityItem ID/Quantity option (used for physical inventory) Program 2 is the Item IDItem IDItem ID option (used for physical inventory) Program 3 is the Working Transfer option NOTE: you cannot switch the Tricoder between these modes without uploading the data first. USING THE PORTABLE BARCODE SCANNER UNITThe Portable Barcode Scanner Unit connects to the computer through a cable on the Tricoder. On the side of the Tricoder you will see two RJ11 ports, one marked scanner and one marked computer. Naturally, the scanner should be plugged into the appropriate port, and the cable that connects to the computer must be plugged into its appropriate port. In addition, the Power cord should always be plugged into the bottom of the Tricoder when the Tricoder is connected to the computer. To start the actual scanning process, turn the Tricoder off and unplug it from both the Power cord and from the computer cable. You will now have only the Scanner and the Tricoder in your hand. Next, turn the Tricoder on. Follow the prompts on the screen, which are:
Begin scanning your data (barcodes). NOTE: The Tricoder will speak its scanning prompts 4-5 times, then continue silently (but these prompts will continue to appear on the Tricoders screen). UPLOADING THE SCANNED DATAWhen you are ready to upload your scanned data, follow these steps:

Stationary Mode is the method selected when this system is used in its non-portable statusthat is, connected to the computer and used as a traditional scanner.
To select this mode once your Tricoder is attached to both its Power cord and the computer cable, turn on the Tricoder (if your Tricoder is already connected and turned on, simply hit the F1 key on the Tricoder). When it offers Data Collection mode, hit the red No key; when it offers Data Upload mode, hit the red No key; then when it offers Non-Portable Mode, hit the green Yes key.
The scanner is now ready to act as a traditional scanner, attached to the computer and scanning directly into POSIM.
